The Creative Arts Center is a facility owned and managed by the TVIA Board of Arts. The Center plays an important role in our community by providing a diversity of cultural experiences and educational programs, including informational seminars, visual art, dance, yoga, drama workshops, theater groups, music programs, open mic nights, teen dances, and poetry readings for children, youth and adults. For information on class offerings check Class Schedule.

Student taking art class at the Creative Arts CenterThe original facility was built by Methodist immigrants in 1906. It served as a Methodist Family art class at the Creative Arts CenterChurch until it was purchased by a private group of individuals in 1990. The CAC is approximately 1600 sq. ft. and includes one event room and an office on the main floor; and, a dressing room, bathroom, and furnace room in the basement. Annual enrollment for classes held in the historic structure currently averages 200 students, with enrollment limited by a lack of space, and limited accessibility to people with special needs. These limitations became of concern to the members of the TVIA Board of Arts in the late 1990s. Dance Reciteal at the Creative Arts CenterIt was in the late 1990s as well that the TVIA conducted a cultural assessment which included a survey of residents to identify cultural and social issues of concern. The results of this assessment revealed that residents in northern Lincoln County would like a Community and Youth Center where they and their families could gather, for the purpose of private and public entertainment and to increase their opportunities to participate in different artistic, dance and cultural events.

In response to the need for more class space, conveniences and easy access for students with special needs, and the clear interest for a Community and Youth Center, the TVIA Board of Arts voted to add-on to its existing CAC facility. Construction on the addition began in 2003.

We expect construction to be completed by the end of 2007. We invite you to help with completion of the Creative Arts Center Expansion Project.

Fundraising

The TVIA Board of Arts sponsors the Holly Faire Christmas bazaar the first weekend of December as a fundraiser. Other fundraisers include pledge drives and the Eureka Artists in Residence auction. Donations are also another important means of funding our activities, as is income from teachers and membership.

Membership is required to take any classes at the Center. Membership is subsidized and based on a sliding scale to make classes available to all. Additionally, some of our teachers offer scholarships to those in need.

The Creative Arts Center is available for rental for both private and public functions as well. If you would like to offer a class at the Center, all that is needed is to fill out an Activity Proposal and submit it to our board.

The Creative Arts Center is a project of the Tobacco Valley Improvement Association Board of Arts. The Tobacco Valley Improvement Association is a 501c(3) non-profit public charity organization; therefore, your donation is tax deductible. Your canceled check is your receipt.
